Beach-y Spring Break Getaways in the United States

It's been a hot topic this week! Families everywhere are beyond ready for a fun Spring Break, but not everyone is ready to make international travel plans for March and April.

Let's be real. Spring Break is all about the beach. Spring Break is all about warming up after a long winter and relaxing together by the sea.

So if you're looking for a beach-y Spring Break trip for your family - but don't want to pack a passport - here are a few unexpected options here in the United States.

Maui Hawaii

Now is a great time to travel to Hawaii. You will need a negative Covid test on the front end of your trip, but no negative test is required to return home (at least of when I'm typing this).

The island of Maui in Hawaii offers the best of both worlds; 30 miles of spectacular beaches and inland adventures including heart-pounding hikes to waterfalls, the Road to Hana and Haleakala National Park.

A family favorite hike on Maui - ‘Iao Valley State Park is home to the infamous ‘Iao Needle. (Fun fact; this is where King Kamehameha I conquered Maui’s warriors in pursuit of uniting all Hawaiian Islands!)

In Hawaii you'll find plenty of condo and residential style accommodations that also feature resort style amenities. This ensures plenty of social distancing and the ability to dine in your own space, while enjoying pools and activities and all the fun of a larger resort.

Alabama Gulf Shore

The Gulf Coast of Alabama is home to bright white beaches with soft white sand and soothing warm water. Book a condo or beach cottage and spend your days swimming, dolphin-watching, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding.

Take a day to explore Gulf State Park and for the most intrepid families, hike a portion of the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. The trail stretches through Gulf Shores, Gulf State Park and Orange Beach and features coastal swamps and freshwater marshes which are home to abundant wildlife. You may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a resident alligator basking in the sun or see deer as they disappear through the trees.

Florida Keys

Of course Florida has a ton of beaches, but not all of her beaches are created equal. If you're not super excited about spending time in the most popular (and crowded) beach areas around the state, a private island might be right for you!
